There's Something In The Air ......

Ever since I was a little girl, fall has been my favorite season. I know it has alot to do with my childhood home. We lived in northern Indiana and our huge yard was full of enormous oak trees. By early September, the nights were crisp and the leaves were turning colors. I remember getting my toy bucket and collecting hundreds of acorns that had fallen from those oaks. To this day, if I see an acorn on the sidewalk, I can't resist the urge to make it go "crunch" with my shoe. We would rake and rake and rake until we had blisters on our hands, and the leaf piles would mount high ... perfect for diving. Sweaters were a must and something about that Lake Michigan air made you want to breathe deeply through your nose ... and it felt so clean!

Many years have passed, and I've long since moved south. I get so impatient here ... because although fall comes (eventually) ... I never feel like it comes soon enough. It's that Indiana thing.

I'm getting ready to go for a walk with the family ... and while our leaves are still green and it's still pretty warm and humid outside, I'll be dreaming of Woodland Avenue and those cool September nights near Lake Michigan.
